An extraordinary Total Lunar Eclipse occurs across the Virgo (Moon) / Pisces (Sun) axis in the early hours of Tuesday, March 3. The Moon swells to her fullest and then is engulfed in the Earth's shadow, where it's illumination briefly turns to a deep, ruddy darkness, this one lasting 59 minutes.

Emotions run high under a lunar eclipse; what has been suppressed rises, what has been avoided becomes glaringly obvious. Virgo Full Moons often bring about crises - it's common to experience health crises or heightened anxieties that expose what needs to be healed or purified.

As eclipses only occur when the Full Moon aligns with the lunar nodes, they carry particular karmic gravity. What is illuminated now has been building, often for years, toward a moment of reckoning and emotional catharsis.

South Node in Virgo: What Must Be Released

This eclipse falls with the Moon conjunct the South Node in Virgo, the Sun conjunct the North Node in Pisces. The nodal axis has moved through this polarity since January 2025, asking us to navigate between Virgo's duty and Pisces' escapism.

A South Node eclipse is a release point — karma completing, habits outworn. The Moon here asks what am I finally ready to let go of?

Virgo represents the Alchemist and the Healer — the one who tends the sacred craft of living well. It governs three domains. First, the physical temple: the body itself, and the daily rituals — sleep, nourishment, movement, stillness — that either sustain or deplete it. Second, the path of service: how we offer our skills to the world with genuine care, without the martyrdom that turns giving into resentment. And third, discernment — the alchemical art of sorting wheat from chaff, of knowing what to tend and what to release, in our habits, our relationships, and the relentless stream of our own thoughts.

This eclipse invites us to release the perfectionism and chronic self-criticism that masquerade as virtue. True Virgo mastery is in doing what is useful, with care, compassion and ritual devotion.

The Sabian Symbol: A Powerful Statesman Overcomes a State of Political Hysteria

Every degree of the zodiac carries a Sabian Symbol. The image for 12° Virgo is: "A powerful statesman overcomes a state of political hysteria."

Given that this eclipse falls conjunct the descendant on the location of Washington, D.C., the precision of this image is striking. The 7th house is associated with both allies as well as open adversaries. Hysteria can distort the truth as facts can appear untrustworthy. A true statesman prevails not through force but through grounded discernment — the highest expression of Virgo.

Mercury Retrograde in Pisces: Exploring the Dreams

Just days before this eclipse, Mercury stationed retrograde in Pisces. Mercury in Pisces already swims in metaphor, dream, and intuition rather than logic. Retrograde, it pulls us backward through territory we thought we'd resolved. But then these experiences begin to resurface in the form of old yearnings, conversations, relationships and creative threads.

Mercury retrograde in Pisces can also stoke anxiety — the mind loses its usual footing, loops back on itself, and in the absence of clear information tends to fill the fog with fear and delusion.

This is a ripe time to pay attention to your dreams and inner visions. Pisces rules the liminal space where the unconscious communicates the most freely. Journal what arises in the half-light of morning. Trust what your body knows before your mind has words for it. Some things need to dissolve before they can clarify.

Jupiter Stationing in Cancer: Available Grace

The most encouraging signature in this eclipse chart is Jupiter in Cancer, stationing direct and sextiling the eclipse. Jupiter is the planet of abundance and expansion — it enlarges whatever it touches, opening doors, broadening horizons, and restoring faith. Exalted in Cancer, the sign of home, belonging, and emotional nourishment, its gifts are particularly intimate: a deepening sense of security, a return to generosity, a renewed trust that life is fundamentally on your side.

Jupiter has been retrograde since November 11, turning these gifts inward for review. When it stations direct on March 10 — just one week after this eclipse — that energy is released outward. What has been quietly ripening is ready to be unleashed.

A sextile requires active engagement — grace doesn't fall into your lap, but it is genuinely available. The eclipse may demand honesty and release, but Jupiter in Cancer offers this assurance underneath it all: What you need will be provided. The tide is turning.

How to Work With This Eclipse

Reflect on where you may need to rebalance when it comes to victim/savior dynamics in your relationships.

Release the Virgoan habit of constant busywork that may be getting in the way of what truly matters most, the bigger picture of life.

Listen to the body. Nagging symptoms, a persistent tiredness, overindulgence or digestion disturbances are some of the signs that it could be time to purify your habits or seek professional support.

Receive. With Jupiter direct in Cancer, practice being nourished and cared for. Belonging and nurturance are more available than your habitual anxiety has been willing to believe.

As the Moon takes on its evocative, copper-red hue, we are invited to witness the shadows of the collective—each a macrocosm of the tensions within our own lives. What this eclipse illuminates may be temporarily crazy-making. Yet, beneath the noise of collective hysteria, a more resilient and luminous truth awaits its unveiling.

With Jupiter offering it's grace, the tide is beginning to turn. Trust that whatever is being stripped away is merely being returned to the earth; what has been composted today will become the rich, fertile soil for your next season of transformative growth.
